One Thousand and One Nights by Hanan Al-Shaykh

It's a really interesting, casual book, very easy to get into it, and the stories and characters are funny. The stories can be compared to some of the more original, more 'vulgar', fairytales of for instance the Grimm Brothers. The only bad thing was that the ending, though contentwise very good, was rather abrupt. There is some explicit language so reader discretion is advised.
