The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
4.75
dark emotional sad tense fast-paced

It is 2025 and this is my first time reading The Hunger Games--I haven't even seen the movie yet--I was able to avoid it for 17 years which is CRAZY! :0 It was really good!! Even though I understood the main plot (wasn't able to avoid that or some memes), I was still eager to find out what happens next! I feel terrible for what happened to Katniss and it makes my stomach churn to think this hunger games scenario could very likely happen in the future of our own world, knowing how richer the rich and poorer the poor is getting, and how insane people can become for sports and even reality tv. I thought Katniss' pov was excellent and so was the writing style; the only thing I didn't like was
Peeta's love for Katniss. Like that's the whole reason why they both survived in the end, but as a woman it's incredibly creepy to read about this boy who loved Katniss for years, watched her silently, and then expected her to instantly love him during and after the Hunger Games. I'm sorry but it's gross and creepy. Maybe Peeta will redeem himself in the future books though!
I can otherwise see why this is now a world-renowned novel and why it was so popular in the 2010s. I'll have to read the rest when I get a chance!
