I do wonder if I would have enjoyed this more if I read it at a different time. It is objectively interesting and well-written, but it just didn’t connect with me the same way LaRocca’s other work has - despite exploring similar concepts. I guess the difference here is the way those concepts are explored? It is definitely a venture into a more fantastical side of horror which isn’t necessarily my thing.
