High Spirits tells a deeply personal story of a beautiful, rich, multi-faceted and dialectic culture that exists within its people, regardless of where they reside. I was immediately captured by the stories of the Beléns told across multiple generations and perspectives. I give this book four stars only because the bit of magic took me off guard, and I felt like that element could have been explored further. Overall, though, this book was a window into a culture that I am so grateful to have experienced. I am so excited for Camille Gomera-Toverez and I look forward to see what she does next!
