Donut Summer by Anita Kelly
4.25
funny hopeful lighthearted medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Complicated
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

I love how Anita Kelly can create layered and queer characters and instantly make them likeable and/or relateable. Penny is a teen with big dreams, who also deals with anxiety, and I really wanted for her to succeed. Her dynamic with the other main character of Mateo is fun, and their friendship developed at a reasonable pace into a romantic relationship. And I love her dynamic with the triplets, as well as her two moms!

As for the story, I enjoyed Penny's worries about her relationships, the future, and wanting to save the world; it was a believable blend of how a teenager can struggle with so many things. I definitely recommend this book for someone who wants a low stress, funny, and honest story.
