Arms and the Man
by George Bernard Shaw
This book is written by one of the most famous English dramatist George Bernard Shaw, and this drama is his one of the very important creation as well as a great satire of society, which deals with theme like glorification of war and love.
So it's basically based on Serbo-Bulgarian War, which happened around 1885 and this book was originally published in 1894, Shaw did his best to show us the reality of war, and how glorification of war only benefits to people who are in power and normal people always suffer because of it, whether they are in war field or not.
Every character represents some part of society and how those people persive war as well as love, for example, the heroine is example of brain washed population who thinks dying for their nation is the best thing, and never question their leaders, Shaw even raised a undertone question, where he points that a great leader is the one who never let war happen, not the one who thinks war is the solution of everything.
Hero of the drama tells us about mental and physical condition of soldiers, how they are forced to be brave and loose their life, just for some rich people to satisfy their fragile ego.
I think it's one of the must classical read of English literature, and upon that it's and comedy drama, which means a very important message is passed to readers in very light manner.
