The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern
3.0
“Strange, isn’t it? To love a book. When the words on the pages become so precious that they feel like a part of your own history because they are. It’s nice to finally have someone read stories I know so intimately.”

Review:
I’ll start this review with things that I liked. This book started out a bit confusing to me since I wasn’t expecting it to have a story within the story, but I do love the concept of the whole book since it makes the whole world building unique and a fun journey to explore. Aside from the world building I also loved the way Erin Morgenstern wrote the characters, it’s not the best, but I really liked them. One of the characters that I wish we had to see more is Kat. I love her so much, and I wish we got to see more of her and Zachary’s friendship.
Sadly, that’s all that I loved about this book. I have great expectations before starting this book, who wouldn’t be hyped to read about a hidden labyrinth with lots of stories that is hidden from the world, where the main character discovers a book where he was part of the story. The main thing that I absolutely hate about this book is the plot. There was just no main/solid plot. It kept changing, and it didn’t even get to resolve some of the plot that are being introduced. When I started reading this, I’m already annoyed on what the plot is since it’s very confusing, so I gave it a chance and tried to continue on with it and the same problem. I got to page 200, and I thought I know what the main plot is going to be, but then it was thrown out the window again. And it’s super annoying. I just wish there was a much more cohesive plot and a plot at all. I only began to understand everything when it was towards the end, and it didn’t even answer every question that I have. Another thing that I hate is that it’s very confusing on who the main antagonist is— the same with the plot it just kept changing, and it’s really confusing to the point that it gets really annoying. Overall, I rated this book 3 out of 5 stars and I don’t recommend it to anyone since you’ll just waste your time reading through this thick book and not even get the ending you deserve after spending hours on this book, but feel free to read it, we may have different opinions on this book.
(Update: I can’t stop thinking about this book since I really loved the concept but was disappointed with the plot, I’ll be giving it another chance soon.)
