Terror at the Gates by Scarlett St. Clair is the fist book in the Blood of Lilith series. Lilith is estranged from her powerful family and is living in Nineveh using her magic to steal for a living. Zahariev is the only man who can help her and he happens to be the ruler of Nineveh.

I had a really hard time with this book. On one hand I really liked Zahariev but we didn’t get enough of him and on the other hand Lilith absolutely drove me nutty.
She is whiney, annoying, and selfish. I did not like her at all so I absolutely cared nothing for what happens to her.

I think I would have enjoyed it more if Zahariev’s POV was more than just tiny little snippets at the end of each chapter. The tension and spice was good. I would have loved to have more about what he was feeling with this tension and slow-burn.

The pacing was also really really slow and didn’t feel like it had a lot of direction with some filler scenes.

Anyways that’s my take! May or may not read the second one when it comes out depending on if I feel up to it.
