Do not misunderstand me, circa 30 pages of this book are an absolute gem and then the rest ends just as the book has begun
I can see what might attract people towards this book and in theory it should thematically interest me greatly, yet I could not dislike the narrating style more, which is decorated with a cherry soaked in rascism on top
This novel has genuinly a few great moments which are smothered by the rest which either bored me, irritated me or made me laugh. Personally, so much potential has been left untouched and it is aggravating because such stories are exactly my thing! I've read most of it in larger batches just to make sure, in hopes, I would not miss any detail or nuance but the craftsmanship leaves me to wish for so much more! And it is important to note that I did not go into this reading experience with any expectations and have still been left wanting for more
the addition of joan almost granted this book another quarter star because i truly believed at page 210 that the big revelation to esther would be that shes a lesbian (would have been funny sue me)

The ending pulls the entire story together. I appreciate the theme of motherhood but this book will not stick with me, despite checking many thematic boxes, I will not think about it neither would I consider reading it again
It's a shame. I thought I'd be having the time of my life.

=> do you know what is cool when writing about an individual being mistreated? Not mistreating others<3
