The Castle of Otranto by Horace Walpole

3.0

A fun story with a haunted castle, somewhat entertaining characters, and an entertaining narrative despite its melancholy.
The beginning was strange and funny (Imagine dying by being crushed by a giant helmet lol. I had to go over that a couple of times to make sure I understood it correctly) and though it’s not as scary as more modern horror stories, it had its moments when you least expected it.
Overall, it was short but fascinating and it was definitely interesting to read the original gothic story that influenced a lot of the gothic and horror genre afterwards.
