An infinitely better story than the Will Smith movie, this classic story has Robert Neville as a combination of Mark Watney in The Martian and Chuck Noland in Cast Away…a man alone just trying to figure everything out.  It plays more like a biological and spiritual puzzle than a horror romp, and that is its greatest strength.  The treatment of alcoholism after the apocalypse, the psychological need for a stray dog to trust him, and several others are real-feeling scenarios that hit perfectly.  And that twist ending?  I haven’t been so surprised and delighted since Ender’s Game!  Absolutely loved!
