Streetfight: Handbook for an Urban Revolution
by Janette Sadik-Khan
“A city whose streets invite people to walk, bike, and sit along them also inspires people to innovate, invest, and stay for good… streets matter. They are the morsel that holds most of the world’s population together.”
4.5/5 stars. a powerful message from an accomplished, smart, and driven woman in planning - that changing our streets for the better doesn’t have to take decades, or centuries, or billions of dollars, and we don’t have to stick to the status quo that puts cars, not people, at the center of our cities.
“So who pays for roads? Everybody does, no matter how much they drive… And that money subsidizes an inequitable use of roads.”
“Transportation is one of the few professions where nearly 33,000 people can lose their lives in a year and no one in a position of responsibility is in danger of losing their job.”
And a great quote from Enrique Peñalosa: “An advanced city is not one where poor people drive cars, but where rich people take public transportation.”
