Honestly, there’s no reason for this not to be worth 5 stars. I never felt like there was too much dialogue, this story and the characters were so well fleshed out. Some chapters were from different POVs, which added to this. I read this in two days. I couldn’t put it down once I started, laughing out loud several times at Will’s dry humour, Lou’s characterisation, and weeping at the tragic final few chapters. Sort of a love story, sort of not, this book focusses more on Lou becoming herself, learning to ‘live’ and ‘be bold.’ As she attempts to get Will to see the joy in life, she inadvertently forces herself out of her comfort zone and into the world. It captures her grief while still giving the reader an understanding of Will’s feelings, life and need for autonomy. Just incredible, and ultimately heartbreaking. Maybe thats why it’s not 5 stars.
Moderate: Death, Grief, Sexual assault, and Suicide attempt
Nothing is described in a vividly gory way. A suicide attempt is described in a way that shocks and upsets the reader, and mentioned afterwards throughout the book as his scars are visible. The sexual assault or rape of a character is not explicitly stated or described, but is implied, and the character does have a panic attack reliving the event, which again is not described graphically.
