I really liked this one but not as much as the first one. I think this book took a lot of time to set things up in the beginning which is really what a second book in a trilogy is supposed to do, but because of that it felt a little slow at first and then the ending flew by with everything that happened. I did like seeing the gray-ness come out more in Adrian in this story as he tries to figure out if he's going to stick to the code that the heroes put out always or not with his secret identity as the Sentinel. I also absolutely loved the moments we got with Max and
how Adrian and Simon can be near him now. It warmed my heart so much to see it and I immediately worried that Meyer was going to kill him off but since he survived to the end of the book (barely), my fears are a little lighter.
Still worried about it for the last book though.
I do have to say that the Agent N stuff was very predictable.
I knew in the first book when they were taking blood samples from Max that they were making something that would take away people's super abilities.
It was very obvious but I don't think it detracted from the overall book too much except that Nova didn't guess it? I thought that was a little out of character. In fact, Nova seemed to be a lot less observant in this book but I think Meyer was trying to make it that way because the romance was supposed to be distracting her.
Speaking of the romance, I still really love the chemistry that Nova and Adrian have. They are so cute and I loved the jungle scene so much and her feeling safe enough with him to fall asleep? Adorable. I totally thought all of their secrets were going to be revealed to each other in this one so that we would have an angst-filled third book, but Meyer surprised me by keeping those secrets hidden, so we'll see how that goes in the next one.
