I love Joe Ide's IQ series. They've got complex characters, convoluted plots, and wild action scenes. I found this book a bit slow in the beginning but it picked up after the early chapters that introduced the main characters.

All the old favorites are back, both the serious ones (IQ, Grace, and Deronda) and the ones who provide the rare comic relief (the ever-suffering Juanell and his scornful mother-in-law). Of course, they're some new people on the scene, too, both good guys (a hapless young man and anguished young woman who are working together) and bad guys (a couple of crazed ex-con killers) and one in-between (a suspicious cop). These people are like pool balls bouncing off one another or sometimes just sliding past unaware. Somehow the author keeps multiple plot points going at the same time, each equally important.

As I say, I *love* the IQ books, but Joe Ide is just downright cruel. He ends the book on a cliffhanger knowing he won't be giving us a sequel for about a year. I can't wait that long!

Highly recommended for those who like clever action thrillers.
