★★★★★ ─── 5 stars read. (close to a 6 stars for the emotional attachment i still have for this book 1 year later, and thanks to my friends who suffered because i rant and recommended it so much)
the emotional damage is VERY damaging right now. and the obsession is obsessing. i have never read a book that made me feel this way at the end of it, i was flipping back to some pages, absolutely in shock. it was such an intimate read in a way, almost to a point where i did not feel like i was reading, i was THAT immersed. not saying that my friends and i are like these characters (well, i hope we're not perceived this way) but i've been in literary studies for as long as i can remember, and idk, i felt a strange bond to these characters...
many people say that they were bored while they were reading and i CAN'T understand, even if the plot fell flat at some points, i was just enjoying the company of these characters and their interesting way of communicating. something that people would find pretentious but i loved is the fact that they quoted shakespeare with each other. i've seen many tiktoks since the end of my reading and may i say that this book has many things to offer, many things to understand AFTER, there is a strict structure for it and it's just genius to me.
(little spoiler : someone pointed out that they did not quote shakespeare a lot near the end of the book in comparison to the beginning, meaning that their group is slowly breaking apart, and i LOVE that detail).
there are so many things i could say about this book, but right now i can't find anything good to say that could portray well what i want to put forward. dear future myself, you NEED to read that book again and annotate it until your pen cannot write anymore, you just need to remember everything to recommend this book to everyone you'll meet.
