Definitely an interesting read that could very well be an ingenious allegory for some ethics that I’m too dense to understand after just one read. I like that it showed a more realistic interpretation of an interplanetary colony (read: not as utopian or fantastical as Star Trek etc) and Butler’s afterword was definitely helpful in understanding the thought process behind what I had just read. I’m torn between thinking that the story is too short because I want more exploration of this society; and thinking that it’s the perfect length because it gives us just enough information to work with while leaving us wanting more.
Graphic: Body horror, Pregnancy, Animal death, Blood, and Gore
Moderate: Death
