Trick Mirror: Reflections on Self-Delusion by Jia Tolentino

4.0

great book, I listened to a lot of it actually with jia reading it so that was great. i think the best stories were the I in Internet, Pure Heroines, and We Come From Old Virginia. My least favorite was Ecstasy. She's got a great voice in writing and in real life. I tore through this thing very quickly. It's easy to read and captures a lot of the things i've been feeling (particularly about the internet and feminism) but havent been able to articulate fully. jia does that for me and I am grateful. the essays do feel like internet writing at times which makes sense because she's an internet writer. sometimes she would just kind of explain plots or stories or real life happenings for too long and just barely touched on analysis. i think that's my main complaint with this. but would definitely recommend to friends. if ur a friend reading this, look for this at ur local library!
