When Panic Attacks: The New, Drug-Free Anxiety Therapy That Can Change Your Life by David D. Burns

hopeful informative reflective medium-paced

4.0

I intend to read through the rest of Dr. Burn's books as soon as I bust through a few on my TBR list. This was incredibly informative. I don't think a lot of it was actionable for me specifically, but many techniques mentioned really helped me reframe my thoughts on fear and anxiety. Dr. Burns expresses a lot of anti-medication viewpoints, which did have me feeling quite uncertain in the beginning, but his elaboration on those views did make sense and are clearly coming from an informed perspective. It hasn't really shaken my own personal views, but I can agree with him entirely on the idea that medication shouldn't be the first line of defense when it comes to mental illnesses. The end was also oddly hopeful, as he mentions that no one will completely get rid of anxiety for the rest of their lives. Relapses happen. It's his goal to give people the tools to ride it out and know how to treat themselves. I loved that sentiment.

Overall, very good book! I'm eager to get through more of his work.
