Pretty Monsters: Stories
by Kelly Link
If you want dark fairy tales for adults, Kelly Link, queen of the short story, has to be one of the go-tos. There are other authors who attempt similar flights of fancy--Holly Black for one, Jeanette Winterson in a sense, but Black is a bit too targeted on the faerie world and Winterson is (for me at least) too loopy. Link to me feels the most authentic, her stories with the most potential to be turned into a fantastic spooky streaming series (if only!) Good reading for fans of Thistlefoot, anyone who's ever had gothy leanings, and witchy girls everywhere.
