The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory

2.0

I'll preface this by saying I'm not a huge historical fiction fan. In addition, I've been hearing about Phillipa Gregory for years, so maybe there's also a hype factor at play here. Either way, I was disappointed.

This book was extremely long and a bit of a yawn-fest. Some exciting things do happen, there are some cool political intrigues and feints, but it's all bogged down by inane details about what everyone's wearing, how much Mary adores Catherine, how much she hates her sister, etc, etc. Secondly, I just found Mary to be horribly inconsistent as a character. None of her motivations really made sense to me. At times Gregory portrays her as this perfectly innocent girl and other times as secretly cunning and devious - very confusing.
