The Butchering Art: Joseph Lister's Quest to Transform the Grisly World of Victorian Medicine by Lindsey Fitzharris

5.0

This was a brilliant book!
Despite being non-fiction, the writing style made it seem like fiction in a good way. It was flowing so easily and made it an entertaining read despite being not for the faint of heart at times, but that comes with the territory of Victorian Medicine.

I'd been vaguely familiar with Joseph Lister before but this book taught me a lot more about him, however even if you have never heard of him, you will still get a very good picture of the man. He came across very three-dimensional and as a genuinely likeable, but not unrealistically perfect person.

I am definitely interested in reading more by this author and will also check out her Youtube series.
Recommending this to everyone who is interested in medicine and/or history, especially Victorian times.
