Beauty Is a Wound by Eka Kurniawan

I still feel like I just have a number of random thoughts about this book and no definitive opinion but here we go...

It's kind of like reading a list of terrible things that happen in the world without much commentary and I think it's kind of the point? - the book just leaves you with it

I don't mind when a book makes me feel uncomfortable but to me certain scenes made it seem as though the feelings of a rapist are as valid as the feelings of his victim
However, I do think the book makes a point about how normalised sexual assault can be in a society, even as the book progresses I feel less and less appalled by it

The pacing and the connections between characters were interesting, it all came together at the end as well

There were parts I really liked and parts I really disliked which is unusual for me
The parts I liked the most were the ones about Indonesian society and communism

I guess If you treat it all like satire (which is hard imo) or some weird fantasy it's alright¿
