Fine. Done. I did it. I just read my first IPB book after years of being intimidated by the concept and the hype and mostly the length of the series. And it really worked for me? It’s quick, it’s dirty, and also kinda dark and nasty and gross (for good reason) and it just works.

Initially I didn’t even like Georgie. Neither in fact, did I like Vektal much. I’m still ambivalent about him, but growth is when you realize Georgie was one of the only ones who was willing to lead and make tough choices and get shh done and in the situation they were in, it was paramount. I wouldn’t last 5 minutes in that world. Although I do not get being in denial that you can procreate with an alien. I mean if it fits, it can very likely impregnate 🤷🏽‍♀️ Don’t be that girl, girl.

The world and the lore I think was one of the best parts of the book for me. The  enthusiastic…eating, and the fancy peenal situation, and the sweet caring barbarian are just a bonus. You can actually trace all the tropes and archetypes and bananas monster rom things we know and love to this book and series and I loved going back to the beginning. Or at least one of the OGs, since I don’t know all of romance history.

I still don’t know how I really feel about the big blue barbarians (Would probably smash, ngl), but Liz was my absolute favorite of them all with her sass and brazen humor even through their crappy situation and I can’t wait to get to her book.
