Two Boys Kissing by David Levithan

5.0

I don't even know where to begin with this book. I got the name from a fanfic I was reading, got the book from the library without knowing anything about it except for the title, and boy was that a good decision.

The first thing that got me was the writing. The narration choise is unusual, and as a writer I found it deeply inspiring. It made me think of all the times I've tried different narrations. And it worked so well on relaying the story of what once was and what is now. I like that in the end the story doesn't revolve around the two boys kissing but around the narrators.

I was somewhat worried that the introduction of so many characters would get confusing, and I'm glad to say I was wrong. Everyone's story felt meaningful, each in their unique way.

This was a great first book for this year. It was impactful, it got me emotional, and every book I read after this will be up against a really high standard.
