Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur

3.0

I wish there was a little more consistency amidst the poems, so I could really identify the style of the writer. The theme of the collection was easy to follow and clearly personal for Kaur, but that also left certain poems feeling as if they served mostly as a catharsis for her than something the reader was meant to interpret or experience. The first chapter was the most disorganized, but the rest improved. I suppose in general I like poetry that makes me pause and think, but some of these pieces were so short that I was just flipping through and flipping through. I think condensing some of the shorter poems into one cohesive one would have been beneficial, since there were many that had me stopping at the end thinking "that's the beginning of a better poem" but that was the entirety of it. Overall, a quick and enjoyable collection but not something that will live in my mind much.
