Summary:

Told from the perspective of two women, both cursed by fate. Lily’s mother was enchanted by a spell, making it so any female born by her would face a cursed life, the only solution being a magic mirror long since thought lost.
Born a siren, Lorelei is cursed with eternal youth and beauty, fueled by the taking of men’s souls to survive. But as Lorelei grows weary of her fate, she too must find the fated mirror that will tell her how to escape her endless cycle.

Review:

I LOVE a good retelling, and this one did not disappoint! It is rich with Germanic lore  and has so many elements of a classic fairy tale, but with an edgy twist.

This book is told from multiple points of view, primarily between our FMCs, Lily and Lorelei. I particularly loved the scenes between Lorelei and her maiden, Daria - every scene felt organic and full of love.

The friendship between Lily and Sophie tugged at my heartstrings, and the Huntsman’s devotion to Lily had me begging for more. Really, who doesn’t love an assassin to protector moment?!

The author has such a fantastic ability to describe the scenes and setting as well, especially with the weather magic at play. The Forbidden Forest truly felt terrifying and the scenes within it were filled with well-placed tension.

Overall, a fantastic book if you’re into dark fairytale retellings with a bit of bite!
