And Away... by Bob Mortimer

informative medium-paced

2.75

On the whole I was disappointed by And Away... it seems that a lot of the magic of Mortimer comes from his voice, mannerisms, and interaction with others. Left on the page a lot of the stories fall a little flat.
Additionally, the vast majority of the book assumed a level of familiarity with Mortimer's back catalogue which I don't have and ended up reading mostly as a long tired account of name dropping. Mortimer's description of his comedy made it sound unfunny and also unpleasant such as describing Jim's sexual harassment of women as a funny joke.
The accounts written about his heart surgery and the modern day were better and perhaps a book about life in general would have been better than an autobiography.
