This book is so dark and twisted, but so thrilling! Gillian Flynn is a unique author in the thriller genre. I felt like I was reading a Stephen King novel for the first half, with how much outside detail and storytelling she uses. Many thrillers don't include much backstory, because it's unnecessary, but she builds the setup in a way that's somehow not boring. Then, the second half... I sat and read it all in one sitting for a good five hours! I listened to the audiobook on 2.0 speed for a good portion of it. I just had to finish! There were no plot twists there just for the sake of a shocking pot twist. This is one of the most well-written thrillers I've read.
The only reasons it's not a five star rating is the language and trigger warnings. Like I said, so dark.
