Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury

5.0

I really want to get to know more of the classic writers of my favorite genres, be more well-read and knowledgeable in the field I want to enter. I don't think I've ever read a full Bradbury novel before, but was inspired to pick this up because Gaiman described Bradbury's style as a genre unto its own (not unlike Neil himself IMO), and I was curious as to what that meant. The prose is so lyrical, like brushstrokes in the wind, a totally ethereal experience that's more poetry than prose. The futurism is remarkably accurate (wall-screen television, omnipresent news and media), but always more the background to the metaphor that drives the novel. A beautiful read.

Experienced as an audiobook read by Tim Robbins, who brings a breathless urgency and poetry to the imagery of the novel.
