These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong

4.0

I should have expected the angst and the pain considering this is a book based off of Romeo and Juliet. That being said, I love Juliette so much??? What a badass. As my friend @guyliners would say, Roma is a simp. The moments (aside from the angst and the romance) that stood out to me, is the poignant moments of reflection that Juliette has on her identity. She grew up in America where she is made fun of for being Chinese, but when she goes home to Shanghai, she finds that she's embraced the Western identity in order to fit in so much so that she doesn't know how to be anyone other than Juliette. These moments of questioning her own identity and where she belongs is something that really hit home.

I look forward to reading the next book and seeing what's in store next for Roma and Juliette. I hope that it doesn't end like the play does lol.
