I don't what it is about characters just being thrown into worlds they didn't even think existed that does it for me, but this book does another great job of giving us that experience as readers.
After I finished the book I found out its considered a bully romance. In one way I see how it fits the micro genre, on the other hand its also how the world is built. College hazing plus cultural norms makes this a book you are shaking and wanting to strangle characters.
Think of it as reading like reality tv. Tory and Darcy are having to learn on the fly about this world of the fae and all that it involves, from the use of elemental magic, to the different orders.
I cringed here and there at the drama and cheesy scenes. I am invested in finding out more about the Heirs and how Tory and Darcy are going to either accept their fates or find a way pass on their blood right.
