Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult

5.0

This book tackled race, prejudice, and implicit biases in a remarkable way. I think this could be an excellent learning tool for those who don't understand the racial issues plaguing the US today.

The character development is outstanding. Each character grew and was challenged as the book progressed, leading to a perfect ending. This was my first Jodi Picoult book and I can guarantee it won't be my last.

Lastly,I loved finding out that Britt is biracial. My mother is black and my dad is white, the same racial makeup as her and I often "pass" for white, don't "look black", I'm just a "tan white girl", and I don't "act black" etc. etc.. I couldn't imagine being brought up to hate half of who I am and discover that I am who I hate so much. I was so sad for her character as she had this realization despite how awful she was as a person.
