Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros

This book is not as fast paced as the first book, which I appreciate some people may find disappointing, but we know there are multiple books in the series to come so the story has to build.

I loved the character development and the fact that the relationships felt more believable than most YA/Romantasy books. The love interests actually spend a lot of time learning how best to navigate this new relationship, we go on a journey with them as they figure out how to communicate. The friendships and the turmoil that Violet faces just felt real and I’m glad they weren’t rushed - it made the risks towards the end of the book feel high stake and genuine.

Watching Violet transform from someone who has always felt she was fragile because of her body into someone who begins to truly believe in herself was awesome to see.

The dragons are superb and the storyline had me constantly trying to think ahead and put it all together. Whilst some of the reveals were easily guessed, the ending caught me off guard! Looking forward to the next one already.
