You know an author is good when you come to love and hate certain characters. Follett does a wonderful job of making the characters in his books believable and realistic to their time in history. The world of 1000 AD is brought to life in The Evening and the Morning in such a way that the reader feels like they are part of the world, observing historical events across a number of years.
