The Throne of Fire
by Rick Riordan
This was better than The Red Pyramid, but that really didn't take a whole lot of skill. Did I enjoy this book? Yes. But it's like a mediocre action movie - think The Scorpion King - that you watch once, but never think about again. The characters are unmemorable, and I honestly don't know why Riordan bothers with Carter at all. Sadie is more interesting and does a lot more. Carter just seems to be along for the ride most of the time. There is no character development, no depth, no growth for any of the characters throughout the story, and when Riordan does try to force some emotional or mental development on you it's so forced you don't really buy it. All in all, a quick, unmemorable read designed to get Riordan a paycheck. If you can get a library copy, fine, if not, it's not worth the money it costs to buy it.
