Jealousy by Jenna Galicki

5.0

Can you love someone without being their lover?

Friendship is one of the most integral parts of the human experience yet there are so few books which emphasize the value of those relationships.

Lovers come and go, but true friends? They're true forever.

Jenna Galicki perfectly captures what it is to be someone's soul mate without being their lover. There is such beauty and brutal truth in the relationship depicted between Heather and Justin. People who love each other that much? People whose friendship is a part of their bone marrow it runs so deep? They aren't "healthy" people. They are not "normal" to the outside world's perceptions, but they have something priceless beyond words in that they will always have one another.

Heather loves Justin as a result of being able to protect him when he couldn't protect himself as much as from having him love her when she was less than lovable.

Justin loves Heather since she was his savior as much as his charge.

Together they form a whole person and watching them find others who can give them the things they can't give each other was a wonderful experience for me.

I'm lucky enough to have a dear friend who is not and never will be my lover, but they're my soul mate all the same. I know what it is to love someone more than myself. To be willing to risk my life for them because I'd rather die than live a day without them. To want them to have happiness if I can't because their joy? Their joy is my joy. I know that feeling. It's an intimate, intricate, indescribable feeling, yet Jenna Galicki elegantly captured it in this poignant tale of unconditional love and timeless friendship.

It's a pleasure to be able to give five stars for this book. I feel grateful to have had the opportunity to read it.
