I'll give this one 3.5 stars. Maybe I got into it too soon after completing the first. Maybe the backstory of the apocalypse is so believeably close to actual current events that I just felt unsettled - like this wasn't an escape from the unfolding disaster of theocratic fascist ascendancy, but a vivisection of it. There was a lot less optimism in this book, I felt. It's not any author's job to lend me optimism, I'm just saying I need a bit more of that right now, and am off in search of it it for a bit. I'll come back to this grim world when I am ready.
