Venom by Rick Remender, Vol. 1 by Rick Remender

4.0

The addition of the tragic hero "Flash" Thompson, who any Spider-fan knows, changes the entire scope of this story. Instead of the brain eating, city smashing Venom we've had in the past. We now have a gritty character study about a damaged man seeking redemption, control of his emotions, and control of a monster that he needs to work with in order to serve his country. The art is gritty and the writing is dark. It's great to see a Venom story that stands on it's own and isn't just page after page of the Symbiote wrecking stuff.
