The Return of Rafe MacKade
by Nora Roberts
Rafe MacKade leaves his beloved hometown after the death of his mother. Feeling isolated and lost like the haunted Barlow place that sits abandoned after the war of Antietam, he decides his place is not in Maryland. After ten years, he returns home to his brothers and buys the Barlow place. As he starts to fix it up, he hears the ghosts of the house and knows that it needs people. The history of the Barlows and the MacKades goes back to the murder and death of soldiers who line the property. I was intrigued by the historical aspect of the story. Rafe meets Regan, a woman who opened an antique store a few years ago. Rafe hires her to help return the Barlow place to its original state and her antiques are required. As much as she doesn't want to fall for the ladies man Rafe, she seems to fail every time he's around. A fast and delightful read and I loved the intertwining storylines of the MacKade brothers and what is to come in the next few books.
