This is a beautifully written, atmospheric book that healed me in a way. It was a slow build up, but to me, the pay off was well worth the wait. Which is saying something because I’m not a slow burn reader. So much happened within the last few chapters, and I couldn’t ask for a better ending. It was such a wonderful feeling getting to read about queer, gender diverse characters and their natural and supernatural challenges within the setting of rural 1920s America. It was honestly awe inspiring and motivating for me to reflect on Leslie finding the openness he needed to embrace the “monster” society viewed him as (wink wink nudge nudge). Speaking of, the spicy scenes were fkin hot as hell and melted perfectly into the storyline, not taking away from the narrative but contributing from the overall character arcs. Overall, a gorgeous read and I will definitely be reading more from this author in the future!
