Hidden Girl: The True Story of a Modern-Day Child Slave by Shyima Hall

4.0

Overall this was an interesting memoir. I had some minor issues with it and some of that I imagine comes from that it is a YA text and I didn't know that going in. I imagine some of my other issues come from English being the author's second language. Other than some stilted language choices and preachy moments which I admit would be good for my high school students.

The memoir itself is a good story. The author was sold into slavery in Egypt when she was a young girl and she has had quite a journey to freedom in the US. It is a sad tale with an eventual happy ending but it does take a long time to find that happy ending.
