So, I am definitely a tad late to reading this series, but I'm glad I've finally gotten around to reading it. I love the movies and the first book in the series was such a great world-building read.
This book, which despite being the sixth to be published, is actually the first book, follows the discovery of other worlds and the creation of Narnia. Diggory and Polly, with the help of Uncle Andrew, discover 'The Woods Between The Worlds' where they travel into another world and awaken a witch who travels with them back to their own world. It is only when they try to take her back to her own world that they discover a new world, and watch it form before their very eyes - Narnia.
I once tried to read this book, several years ago, but couldn't get into because it's mainly world building compared to the other books. Now, I am able to appreciate it a little more and dive into the world of Narnia.
Having seen the movies and having already read the second book several years ago, I do have some idea about the story as a whole, but loved the little pieces that foreshadow the rest of the events of the series.
It was great to see how Narnia was created, how Aslan and Jadis become enemies, the formation of the wardrobe and the identity behind the Professor. It was a great precursor to the series, and I'm excited to dive right into the world with the rest of the books.
I highly recommend you read this book if you haven't yet, and I definitely think you should read it first, in the order in which C.S. Lewis had intended the series to be read.
