The Key to Rondo by Emily Rodda

2.0

I picked up "The Key to Rondo" at a closing sale (sad) hoping for a nice little fantasy even if it was targeting a much younger audience then me. Unfortunately I felt as if the author was writing for a six year old, everything was spelled out, the 'twist' were just a flip flop of trust and miscommunication, and the antagonists plan/trap was so convoluted she had to know exactly how these kids she knew for forty seconds would react. The story wasn't absolutely horrible and went at a quick enough pace to not get bogged down. The allusions to different fairy tales were nice at points and a bit too forced at others. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone over the age of ten and won't be reading the rest of the series myself.
