Lately, I've been feeling a bit "overworked" into reading so I decided to do a change of pace. I wanted to read something light as a breath of fresh air so I grabbed this book as it seems something light for me (And YA books sometimes are a breather for me). And oh boy, I was in for a magical ride.

First, we have this protagonist who's a perfect epitome of what a typical Filipino teenager is (a very relatable character as there are some things that make me reminisce my younger years. hehehehe).

Then we have this truly amazing storytelling and world-building. We are introduced to Filipino Mythology in a rich, profound and imaginative way. And for someone who's into mythology like me, this is surely a win. The author has shown these mythos - our mythos - in a whole new light. As a Filipino who've heard a lot of story about tiyanak, tikbalang, aswang, and the like, you've thought you've heard it all. But the author twisted, turned and dug deeper into our lore.

Furthermore, we have the incorporation of the gaming world that once again relates to me. Aside from reading, I also enjoyed playing video games. I'm not a hardcore gamer but still, the love of playing video games is still there for me. And the fun thing here is that the lore of the ancient and the age of the new technology has been combined in this epic read.

The reading experience was totally unexpected. It's like a single point that goes wider and wider as you turn every page. It's full of surprises and WTF moments that make you giddy to know what happens next or why things happen. And oh, there are heart-wrenching moments for the main character that I did not see coming.

This book is really just the tip of the iceberg on what's to come in the series. It really did set as a good first installment and if you have plans on reading it, make sure you buy the other books in the series. :)
