This book has quickly earned the title as one my favorite books. Quite a large decision, but from the beginning, I knew I would love this. Akbar’s attention to detail, wit, and sweeping self-loathing monologues drew me in immediately. Dark humor and pain are rife within these pages, and the plot doesn’t suck too!!! Such a beautiful interweaving of Iranian folklore, political history, and intellectual discussions on American racism and Islamophobia. Truly a modern masterpiece. I want to tell my high school English teacher to put this book in the curriculum.
