This book was pretty good! Although it did sound a lot like The Darkest Minds a lot. Adelina was an interesting character because she is not your typical hero, she has darkness in her which she periodically let take her over. That is where this book stands out from the rest, the fact that Adelina is an anti-hero more than anything. Overall I enjoyed the writing in this book and the world is very interesting, although the world building could have been more flushed out because we really follow Adelina only.

I think Adelina’s powers is pretty interesting and it’s kind of the first time I see something like this in a young adult book.

Recommendations

Read this book if you’re interested in getting a fresh view of the side of the anti-hero.

This mostly has my thoughts when I was reading the aforementioned book.

I really thought she would get said to have like caused the most stones to light up - you know the whole Mary Sue thing.

Wow she killed Dante by causing him to feel pain? I felt this was a bit far fetched because somehow her illusion of pain can kill him? I mean I guess it’s like she made him experience a level of pain above his pain threshold and so he kind of just died but yeah??

I sure hope Violetta will use her powers to weaken Teren so that Enzo can fight.

That moment when even Adelina couldn’t tell apart the illlusion of Teren that she placed onto Enzo and just killed Enzo when she could have done it to Teren.

It was sad seeing that the Daggers saw Adelina as one who betrayed them and told her to leave.
