The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness

4.0

So this book definitely has some slow spots where you’re waiting on more answers for why things are happening the way they are. It kind of have a Huck Finn feel to the novel. I also felt that the characters were difficult to root for (especially Todd) at a few different parts of the story.

That being said, I did really enjoy the novel. I think it’s important to remember the main protagonists are literally 13 (wink wink 14) and may not always think In the most rational ways. Not to mention the slow areas really do build up towards the big reveal at the VERY end of why everything is the way it is in the New World.

I really loved seeing the evolution of Todd’s character even though he frustrated me a lot at some points. However by the end you see he’s clearly acting out of love, trying to protect those he cares about.

By the last few chapters I was speeding through because I was so entranced. The plot twist at the end….and leaving it on a cliffhanger…. definitely hard to swallow….but just means I’m so excited to read the next two books.

Overall, I thought the plot and story line was pretty interesting. In a world where everyone can hear each others thoughts, you really have to watch your back. Also (not to spoil anything) learning about Prentistowns history was so saddening. Can’t wait to start the second book!
