Fables, Vol. 1: Legends in Exile by Bill Willingham

5.0

I picked this up when I was looking for something different to Marvel Comics (as that's the only thing I read), and I absolutely got hooked on this graphic novel series (published by Vertigo). This is a retelling of everyone's beloved fairy tale or folk characters and their exile and asylum in New York City. Their struggle to survive the 'normal realm' with non-powered humans. With everyone living in a fairy tale community, they also place new sets of rules; no one is a villain and everyone behaves in a civilized fashion. The Big Bad Wolf is a detective, Snow White is mayor of the community, Pinocchio is stuck at being a boy FOREVER, etc. This is a very great and fun spin on the classic characters.
