Hunger Games meets LOTR with an easy to understand (& remember) magic system. A good number of characters that doesn’t overwhelm you but pull you in.
Most importantly, a badass MFC who is always saving the MMC. I really liked the switch up of her being the strong 200+ year old fae warrior and him being the 20-odd year old human. The slow burn between them and the development of their relationship via sarcasm and teasing was well written and fun to read.
I liked the progression of the characters changing prejudices, with the twist at the end being a good cliff hanger.
Although I was expecting a little more “shadow” to our shadow mommy (more actual shadows than a dark, villainous side), I loved Elyria’s sass, wit, strength and courage.
